We both visited the botanical gardens and we went to a concert at Kirstenbosch. Both were absolutely great. The gardens are well maintained and beautiful laid out. The concert (and concert lawn) are a real summer experience. With food & beverage vans , sitting on the lawn listening to music while the sun sets behind table mountain is an amazing experience and night out. Staff is very friendly, parking is easy and safe. I highly recommend.

Beautiful gardens, with plant collections found nowhere else. Great access up to Table Mountain also if you know where you're going. Even in the dry season, the plants are kept in superb condition. The cafe and tea rooms also serve some lovely treats!

Kirstenbosch is absolutely worth visiting for the views and the sheer size of the garden, but my experience was a bit mixed overall. I visited on 18 Jan 2026 and it was very busy with tourists. Booking online made entry quick and easy, but some staff members weren’t the friendliest. Even with the crowds, you can still find quieter pockets in the garden if you take a few minutes to explore. 1. Vibe (noise level, comfort, service, crowd) Busy and tourist heavy on the day, but the garden is large enough to escape the noise. Comfort is great once you’re inside, but service from staff felt inconsistent. 2. Food and drinks (flavour, freshness, portion size and consistency) I didn’t eat here, although the restaurant looks nice and seems like it would be a good stop during the walk. 3. Value (worth it for the price, extras and/or hidden costs) The entrance fee R100 for SA residents (have to show ID) is worth it for what you get. The gift shop is great for unique items, but it is a little overpriced. 4. Experience (wait time, parking availability, views, family and/or pet friendly) If you don’t book online, the queue can be long. Parking can also be a struggle to find. The views are awesome and there’s a huge area to explore, making it very family friendly. The main downside was that a big part of the garden was closed due to concert prep, and this wasn’t clearly shown at the entrance. It meant we had to walk uphill and much further than planned, and some routes can be confusing if you don’t know where you’re going. Wide range of plants, and birdlife which is a highlight of the visit. 📍 Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, Cape Town 🌿 Huge garden • Stunning views • Quiet spots exist even when busy 🎟️ Entrance fee worth it • Gift shop great but overpriced 🚗 Parking can be tricky • Book online to skip queues • Some areas may be closed during events

The Botanic Gardens are a must visit when in Cape Town! It is so nice and peaceful. It a bit hilly so you can go up and have a beautiful overview. It has lots of interesting plants trees and flowers. You can have a drink and some snacks. Sometimes they have concerts and open air movies! Check the website for more info.

We had a wonderful day at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. The staff were incredibly friendly, and it’s clear they take great pride in the grounds. Everything is immaculate, and beauty truly is everywhere you look. The canopy walk is an absolute must and offers a unique perspective of the gardens and surrounding landscape. It was not overly busy, which made the experience even more enjoyable and relaxing. I would love to come back one day and attend a concert here. A truly special place.
