Great Northern Coffee Traders
Reviews
The Good: This place has an absolutely fantastic atmosphere. Very rustic and comfortable. They even keep a cozy fire going. It is a great environment to chill out and study, or just hang out with friends. The food is delicious. I had one of their breakfast sandwiches and it was quite good. The Bad: The shop really markets itself on gourmet coffee, but I genuinely do not taste the difference. On top of that, the prices are not competitive. I paid fifteen dollars total for a single sandwich and one seasonal coffee. That felt like a bit much, especially when there are cheaper options elsewhere, which leads me to… The Ugly: You get a single refill on a regular drip coffee only. They will not allow a drip refill if you purchased one of their seasonal coffees, even though those cost roughly more than double. That is pretty unusual nowadays when most cafes allow unlimited drip refills with the purchase of any drink. It made the experience feel not worth the money. You are paying close to twenty dollars for a sandwich and coffee and still cannot get a refill. There was also a slight smugness from the lady when I asked. When I mentioned what competitors do, she waved it off, saying they were “gourmet” and could not support that model. She refused any refill and said I could “buy a regular coffee” if I wanted one. I politely declined. Failing "the customer is always right" test, I grabbed a free cup of water and decided the place was not as stellar as I first thought. Final Thoughts: I will likely return because the atmosphere really is great. But I would only ever recommend buying their regular drip coffee. Nothing fancy. It is about three dollars and comes with a refill, which averages out to roughly $1.50 per cup. Not bad.

Nice atmosphere and great drinks. Service was excellent, even though all the hostess told us that they were short-staffed. We only had to wait a few minutes for our drinks. Decided to try the Peppermint Patty Mocha, Man's Best Friend iced chai, hazelnuts and gingerbread) and a caramel macchiato. All were delicious. Would come back!
